Wow Mom is a leading social enterprise that advocates for child-friendly cities in Kenya. Our mission is to create cities where children grow, learn, and thrive. Through research-driven advocacy, policy formulation, and strategic programs, we address the unique challenges women and children face in urban settings. Our programs improve access to quality childcare, advocate for the inclusion of baby-changing facilities in public spaces, and empower women with skills in parenting, nutrition, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy, thereby promoting gender equity and social inclusion.
In partnership with the Nairobi City County Government, we provide safe, affordable, and high-quality childcare services that support women traders by alleviating the burden of unpaid care, enabling them to focus more time on their businesses. Our play-based childcare program fosters children's cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development, ensuring a strong foundation for their future. Currently, Wow Mom operates childcare centers in Gikomba and Mwariro markets, having supported over 3,000 children, aged 3 months to 13 years.
As part of our commitment to early childhood development (ECD), Wow Mom seeks to equip children with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. As technology becomes an integral part of daily life, integrating it into early learning enhances children's development, ensuring they gain the essential skills to grow, learn, and navigate the future.
Event Overview
Technology is revolutionizing how children learn and interact with the world. ‘‘Edutainment’’ the fusion of education and entertainment, offers an innovative way to enhance creativity, problem-solving, and social skills. While traditional learning remains essential, integrating digital tools enriches early childhood education, making learning more engaging and interactive. When used responsibly, these tools support cognitive and language development while maintaining a healthy balance of screen time.
To celebrate one year of Daycare operation at Mwariro Market, Wow Mom is hosting an Open Day Event on Saturday, 19th April 2025, under the theme: “Edutainment – Leveraging on Technology for Early Childhood Development.” This event will showcase how digital tools can transform early learning while engaging parents and caregivers in discussions on responsible use of technology . Through hands-on activities and expert insights, we will demonstrate how blending education with entertainment can create meaningful learning experiences for young children.
Objectives
- Showcase the Role of Technology in Early Childhood development through digital tools, including educational TV programs, interactive storytelling applications, and digital learning games, which promote cognitive, language, and social development.
- Provide hands-on experience with child-friendly digital learning resources.
- Engage parents, caregivers, and educators in discussions on responsible and balanced technology use
